Summer:
Summer is a time of long daylight hours. In mid-June, the
sun rises at 4 am and sets at 11 pm.
Daytime temperatures range from 10 C (50 F) to 25 C (75 F).
Our region is close enough to the Pacific ocean to receive
rain to keep the forests and alpine areas green. But we are
far enough away to escape the constant coastal rains. We have
little wind, cool nights and bright, hot days alternating
with cool, rainy days.
Winter:
Our winters are mild, with little wind, except in the high
alpine areas. The valley bottoms will have 30 cm (12")
to 76 cm (30") of snow and daytime temperatures that
range from freezing (0 C, 32 F) to
-15 C, 0 F. The alpine areas will have a lot more snow - usually
from 120 cm (48") to 183 cm (72").
Normally, we will experience cold temperatures to -30 C,
-20 F. for one to three weeks. Record lows are in the -45C,
-45F range but are rare, especially in the last 40 years.
