Location: Map NW
Rating:
Road Conditions: Pavement to the turnoff onto the Toboggan Creek Road. Use four-wheel drive to cross two creeks 24" deep and to drive the narrow steep mining road with rough rock in spots. Creeks may become impassable with high water, best in August and September.   Trail Length: Road is suitable for four-wheel drives or mountain bikes. This road is almost too long to hike in one day. It can be difficult to wade the largest creek on foot. Drive 12.3 km from the turnoff on Glacier Gulch Road to the upper alpine and park below the upper portion of the mining road which is blocked by rock falls. Hike for one hour up the road to reach the top of the easy alpine and a good view of the rest of the mountain and ridges below.
Directions: Drive north of Smithers on Highway 16 past the Smithers Airport. Turn left (west) on the Lake Kathlyn Road. Turn right (north) on the Glacier Gulch Road. Drive to the end of the pavement and just beyond the last named street. The road straight ahead is the Twin Falls road. Turn right on the dirt road at the base of the first hill.   Features: It's a long rough ride through the timber but the views at the top make it worthwhile. On the way up, look across the valley at the glacier under the north peak of Hudson Bay Mountain. Note the braided waterfalls. At the top of the alpine there are remnants of old mining equipment and several openings to mining tunnels. There are numerous "Cat" ditches in the high alpine pushed for mining exploration years ago. The lakes in the valley below and to the west are the upper and lower Silvern lakes. Click here for more. Note to ATV users - it is illegal to drive off the hard-packed road. There are few mountain goats due to the frequency of visitors to this road. Upper road is good access to the North Peak, for experienced mountaineers only.
Park in lower alpine and walk up to upper flat

Mining tunnels and ditches are in the upper alpine
