Features: The trail through the
timber is one of the most attractive trails in our region. The beauty
of the lower hemlock-cedar forest and the upper hemlock-balsam fir
forest are
worth the hike
alone. The trail is smooth and wide. Thank goodness for that since
you have to gain 3000' elevation just to get a good view of the mountain.
Above that expect steep ground and large broken rock. Avoid this
trail late in the season when frost will dislodge rocks and send
them hurtling across your path. Best in dry weather which is asking
a lot - this mountain attracts clouds, fog and rain which makes footing
slippery on the rock and navigation a challenge. For the Blue Lake
Trail crossover, hike the route from the Blue Lake
side in advance. The small crossover location is easier to see from
that side. |
