Location: Map NW
Rating:
Road Conditions: Access road in the park to the trailhead is rough and suitable for high-clearance vehicles only. Not suitable for large RV vehicles.   Trail Length: One hour and forty minutes to timberline but a long 11 km to the summit and junction with the McCabe, Little Joe and Harvey Mountain trails. Can take 3+ hours to get to the summit or 4 hours to reach the summit of Pyramid Mountain to the east of the trail. Take a topographic map to keep track of all the intersecting trails.
Directions: Set odometer to zero at the junction of Highway 16 and the Old Babine Lake Road just south of the Bulkley River bridge south of Smithers. Drive on the old Babine Lake Road for 7.9 km and turn left on the Telkwa High Road. Turn right on the Driftwood Road at 9.4 km. You will cross a bridge at 15.7 km. Very rough road from 17.7 km to the small parking lot at the Lyon Trail sign. The trail goes southeast along the flank of Harvey Mountain and then turns northeast in the alpine around the end of Harvey Mountain. Keep left after crossing the log foot bridge in the alpine. Padella Pass trail goes to the right.   Features: The trail follows a very gradual grade in the timber for a quick pace. You can take short side trips to the east to Carson Basin and Ganokwa Basin, Pyramid Mountain and Padella Pass. The alpine is relatively dry and rocky compared to other mountains and there is a shortage of mountain goat terrain. Watch for marmots and a good variety of alpine flowers. Hike each of the connecting trails once and you will see how they all connect for a circle trip.
