Near: Smithers
Difficulty: Moderate

Heavy timber along lower trail
Location: Map NW
Rating:
Road Conditions: Excellent, wide logging road access.   Trail Length: 8.5 km to the summit pass at Hyland Mountain and the top of the McCabe Trail. About two to three hours up. Total crossover to the parking lot near Sunnypoint is 16.5 km, a long day.
Directions: Drive south from Smithers on Highway 16 about 4 km and turn left (east) on the Babine Lake Road (not the Old Babine Lake Road). Look for the Little Joe Lakes Trail sign on the left side of the road at about 28 km. Turn left on the side road for about 1 km to the parking lot.   Features: A good trail, well maintained by park staff. Starts in heavy, tall timber and stays relatively level for most of the way. A short, steep ascent of a canyon wall and you are near the lowest of two alpine lakes. Good views of the lakes all the way to the summit pass at Hyland Mountain. Easy connections to McCabe Trail or Lyon Trail in the Babine Mountains park trail system. Trail is a bit sketchy at the lower end of the lakes but can be found. Watch for alpine fireweed and white geraniums growing on vertical rock at the steep trail section.
Close to the summit pass near Hyland Mountain with two lakes in view to the east

Trail stays to left of two lakes and drops down at end of lower lake. Babine Lake in far distance.
