Description: Steep direct trail to the summit of a low mountain. Best route is to loop back on the McCabe Trail. This trail is part of the Babine Mountain Range Park system of trails. Gives access to an alpine area with little chance of seeing wildlife. There are a number of better routes in the Babines. See Danny Moore Creek Trail and Little Joe Lakes Trail
Near: Smithers
Difficulty: Moderate

Harvey Mt connector joins the McCabe trail at the second boardwalk
Location: Map NW
Rating:
Road Conditions: Rough dirt road to parking lot. Not suitable for large or low vehicles. Two-wheel drive is OK.   Trail Length: Two hours (4.5 km) to the summit and 1-1/2 hour return. If you wish to loop back on the McCabe Trail, add 1-1/2 hour to the roundtrip for a total of 5 hours.
Directions: Set odometer to zero at the junction of Highway 16 and the Old Babine Lake Road just south of Smithers. Drive on the old Babine Lake Road for 7.9 km and turn left on the Telkwa High Road. Turn right on the Driftwood Road at 9.4 km. You will cross a bridge at 15.7 km. Very rough road from 17.7 to Harvey Mountain sign or continue to the parking lot at 20.7 km. If you will return on the McCabe Trail, park at the parking lot at 20.7 and , walk back down on the main road until you see the Harvey Mountain Trail sign. Keep left at the "Y" after one hour on the trail.   Features: A small, unimpressive mountain but good views of the Bulkley Valley. Best to connect and return to the parking lot on the McCabe Trail or on the Lyon Trail so that you don't need to retrace the trail. Little chance of seeing mountain goats but there are marmots at the crossover. To cross over to McCabe Trail, keep in the middle low part of the summit and follow the creek on the east side and bear left at a small lake. You will begin to see the trail below the lake, to the north. Take a map and compass to be sure. If you start on the McCabe Trail, the connector trail is flagged on the second boardwalk and turns south and winds up a steep hill. On the west side ot Harvey Mountain, old tire tracks in the alpine give a clue to the trail going down.
Hyland Mountain in the distance. Small lake on the connector trail to McCabe trail - keep left of lake

To connect with McCabe Trail, follow creek that flows to the east from the summit
