Description: A direct route to the Four Lakes area of the Babine Mountain Recreation Area. For experienced hikers only. Not a well-established trail - you may need a map and compass. Excellent views and possible link up with the Onion Mt trail, McCabe and Lyons Creek trails.
Near: Smithers, BC

Difficulty: Moderate

Location: Map NW
Rating:
Road Conditions: Excellent gravel road   Trail Length: Two hours to best view of the lakes, another 30 minutes to the upper lake. Make careful notes to find the top of the trail on the way down.
Directions: Drive south from Smithers about 4 km on Highway 16 and turn left (east) on the Babine Lake Road and set your odometer to zero. Turn left at 27.7 km just past Smokey Bridge (past the 26 km marker) and park. Four-wheel drives can park about 2 km further. Walk to the landing at the end of the logging road. The trail heads north up a small ridge to the trees. Watch for flagging.   Features: Four Lakes have always been difficult to access from the Onion Mt trail or from the Little Joe Lakes trail. This trail takes you to the top of the lakes basin on the south side. It's an easy scramble down to all four lakes. Watch for ptarmigan, chipmunks and mountain goat. Hike across the basin and to the NW to reach the cliff above Little Joe lakes. Please remember that once you get to the upper alpine, you are in a Provincial Park and all Park regulations apply.
Looking across the lower lake to the NW, Little Joe lakes are behind brown hill
