Location: Map NW
Rating:
Road Conditions: Good gravel Forest Service road. Not suitable for large RV vehicles. Best for use on weekends and holidays to avoid logging truck traffic.

Trail Length: 3.69 kilometres from the parking lot to the high point, but also an elevation gain of 1135 metres (from 3200' to 6700'). About 1-1/2 hours to timberline and another 1-1/2 hours to the high point. About two hours down from the top. For experienced and fit hikers only.

Directions: Follow the Ski Hill signs from Highway 16 in Smithers. Set your odometer to zero at the highway. At km 14.9 on Hudson Bay Road (Ski Hill Road) , turn left onto the McDonnell Lake Forestry Road. Turn right at the 7009 kilometre sign and drive 2.1 km up the steep hill to the parking lot. Follow the flagging through the opening to the northwest to the next small cutblock and then up the hill.   Features: A steep trail to keep you fit. Located close to town with superb views in all directions. No water available in the alpine so pack plenty. This trail is flagged and follows an old path but is brushy in spots. This is the last easily negotiable ridge on the west end of the back of Hudson Bay Mountain. The top of the ridge tapers to a knife ridge with vertical drop to the west. Lots of crowberries to pick for pie on the lower slopes. Trail crosses an old mining trail and the end of a mining road.
