the Babine Lake Road to the mining camp and Park gate
where
all vehicles

to
the turnoff to the Cronin Forest Service Lookout on the right. Another
1-1/2 hour to the highest point on the trail and a close view of
the Hyland
Pass. 1-1/4 hour down to the gate above the mining camp. The trail
to Higgins Creek and on to Eagle Pass and the Little
Joe Trail is
at 7 km on the Cronin Trail Road and is marked with a sign. |
| Directions: Drive south from Smithers
on Highway 16 for 4 km and turn left (east) on the Babine Lake Road.
Watch for sign and turn left on the Cronin Trail at 32 km. Four-wheel
drive only for 10 km to the mine site. Turn right at the mine site
cabin or park at the mine site and walk up the road past the Parks
gate. No ATVs permitted
on Park lands. |
|
Features: The four-wheel drive
in is slow and rough. The walk up the road to alpine is on an easy
grade and suitable for children. There are at least seven old mining
cabins and buildings to explore but all are too old to use for camping
shelter. You can also turn right at the Lookout sign and walk to
the old Cronin Lookout that is no longer in service. There are great
views
of Hyland Mountain and it's two lakes. Trail provides easy access
to a large rolling alpine area on the way to Cronin Mountain. The
road ends at the foot of the Hyland Pass trail and it's a possible
link over
the
pass
to the Silver King Cabin and a long walk out the Silver King Basin
to the Sunnypoint parking lot. The trail is in the Babine Mountain
Provincial Park and all park regulations apply. Mountain bikes are
suitable for this trail. |
