| Description: A 16 km long network of rustic cross-country ski
trails, formerly maintained by the Forest Service. Users set their own tracks. Located
within 20 minutes drive of Smithers, excellent for all
the family. Usually the area has more snow than low
valley trails. Not suitable for hiking in the summer
- swampy ground. Volunteers have brushed and flagged the trails in 2008. Watch for tracks of marten, ptarmigan and coyote. See web site for more information. |

Trail Length: One hour to snowshoe or ski the outer
perimeter trail in the original ski area. Another hour to ski the inner trails. Plan on a long day to ski the Hill Trail or the other two new trails, skins required. |
| Directions: Drive south on Highway 16 from Smithers
about three minutes, past the two churches, turn left (east) on the
Babine Lake Road. Go to 21.7 km.- look for the sign and parking lot on
the right side of the road. |

Features: The trails are on rolling hills with
some views of the valley, ideal for snowshoeing or skiing. The perimeter trail around the original ski area is flagged red and the inner trails are flagged yellow or blue. Three new trails for advanced skiers have been flagged (in red) to the east . The Hill Trail extends more than 4 km to an alpine hill with a great view. Signs are located at key locations. Much of the pine
forest is an old burn with spaces between the trees - you can ski or
snowshoe in any direction but take a compass to find your way
back to a trail or to the parking lot. |
The open meadow area along Canyon Creek is ideal for
exploring

Three new trails are flagged through an old open burn area to the east. The Hill trail ends on an alpine hill.

The original trails total about 8 km and are suitable for beginners.
