Description: A world-class fossil bed located
in a creek canyon. Shale formations hold plant, animal
and insect fossils of species that inhabited the area
50 million years ago during a warmer period, similar
to the climate of North Carolina today.
Features: Fossils may
not be removed from the park. There is a scree slope and viewing platform.
Small fossils show in the broken rock at the foot of the slope. Four
picnic tables are located along the creek. Easy access from Smithers.
Directions: Drive south from Smithers. Turn off
Highway 16 just south of the Bulkley River Bridge onto the Old Babine
Lake Road. Turn left at the intersection at 7.4 km, go 2 km and turn
right on the Driftwood Road. It's 4.1 km to the Park on the right
side of the road.
