| Highway 16 from Burns Lake to Prince
Rupert has been described as one of the most scenic highways
in the world.
You go from the lakes and rolling hills of the Lakes District
to rounded mountains near Houston and Telkwa to the steep
peaks near the Hazeltons. As you drive west to Terrace and
Prince Rupert, the Coast Mountains become steeper and more
numerous. Large icefields and glaciers are visible on the
side road to Stewart.
Our region has an excellent mix of mountains, lakes and rivers
and is sheltered from the wind and rain common to the coastal
areas.
Our side roads and forestry roads make much of our wilderness
area accessible. See the Circle Tours
for more information on day trips within our region.
Recommendation: It is recommended that travel on active
forestry roads be limited to weekends to avoid meeting logging
trucks.
Our towns have expert vehicle and tire repair facilities
in case you need it. Many parts are stocked and others are
a day away by air freight.
There are numerous RV and camp facilities along major highways.
Most of our lands are public-owned and accessible to all.
Away from our towns and farms, RV and camper owners can park
in a wilderness setting of their choice. (please do not litter)
