Whitewater kayaks... ...in the Bulkley Valley
If you live in the Bulkley Valley or the Lakes District, you are lucky, you're in kayak heaven.

Whitewater kayak

Lots of whitewater rivers and big lakes to explore. Wildlife to see along the shore and all that wilderness.
Where to start? You're in luck again. The Bulkley Valley Kayak Club can help.
Here are some tips from Susan Azofeifa, member of the Club and owner of Aquabatic Sports, about how to begin.
First, why a kayak? Why not a canoe? Canoes are excellent for lake travel and good for running rivers but in rough water, you will spend a lot of time bailing water that has splashed into the open boat.

Kayaks avoid the problem by sealing all gaps so that even if you flip upside down, water can't get in.
That brings us to the other advantage of the kayak over the canoe, safety in rough water. If your kayak rolls over, you can easily flip it upright without leaving your seat. You won't lose the gear stowed in your kayak and you won't normally become separated from your boat in the water.
