Let's hike to... ... the Nourse Creek Falls
by Diana Roberts
As anyone who lives in the Lakes District knows, there are many wonderful things to see in our area, but one place that is truly magnificent is Nourse Creek Falls.

Nourse Creek can be found south of Burns Lake. You take Highway 35 to Francois Lake, turn right (west) to the Francois Lake ferry, continue another 14.4 km. (there are small km signs on the side of the road).
The start of the trail
On the right-hand side, you will see a sign indicating the road to the falls. You then travel along a dirt road for .5 km. til you see yet another sign, where you take another right turn. It is very easy to find. The Tourist Information Center in Burns Lake has color brochures from the BC Forest Service.
There is an outhouse, a bulletin board and a large sign at the beginning of the trail. On the board is a map which shows you where you are and how far you have to go to reach both sets of falls. The first falls are a short 1.5 km. hike, while the second falls are 3.4 km. The trail continues on up for a 6.5 km. to Maxan Lake. You can either hike on foot or go by horseback.

We had been camping at McClure Pit, which is at the 10 km. mark, so it was only a short distance to the falls. Our hiking group consisted of twelve people, with only four adults, so we only went as far as the second set of falls. The trail is wide enough for a single person only, but well maintained.
There are signs along the way to let you know where the horse trails head off from the normal trail. When we started down the path we noticed some walking sticks standing by a tree, so we borrowed them for our trek (and put them back when we were done).
We also brought along water bottles and were glad we did. The day was partially overcast but we still worked up a thirst walking up and down the hills that lead to the falls.
