Houston dreams in the... ...Year 2000

Everyone wants to mark the turn of the century with something memorable. Something that will be remembered for years to come, possibly outlasting our own children's life times.
It is not the first time in Houston's history that dreams have been put to the test.
Steelhead Park was once a dream. It's now known as the most "beautiful park between Vancouver and Prince Rupert".

The idea for the World's Largest Fly Rod was first drawn on a restaurant napkin and now stops tourists who would normally drive through "yet another small town".
We have murals adorning buildings and a Christmas Light-Up program that is rivaled by no other community of our size.
Best of all, we have pride. People that live in Houston have always pulled together to make the most of their home town. It will soon be time for them to do it again.

In July 1999, Houston moved one notch closer toward its new dream - a full-size indoor swimming pool and multi-purpose recreation facility.
For many years, various studies and surveys have revealed that the greatest need in the Houston community is for more youth and family activities.
A public forum, held in 1996, confirmed that a year-round aquatic center would be the best solution.
A Leisure Facility Planning Committee (LFPC) was formed. The committee conducted workshops, assessed present facilities, surveyed various community organizations and studied facilities available in other communities the size of Houston.
