| Making Music... | ...In Houston | ||
| by Debi Osborne |
| They are just elementary students. Their ages range from ten to thirteen. But thanks to their music teacher, Dave Conway, they are making music, making money and putting Twain Sullivan Elementary School on the map! In 1995, Dave organized a group of Houston students, from Grades 6 and 7, to play their first "gig" for an audience outside of their school. They called themselves the "Midsummer Band" and were featured in the Smithers Midsummer Festival. |

| They also performed for the Smithers Fall Fair the same summer. The sight of these talented children playing keyboards, guitars and drums while singing with microphones was enough to earn them an invitation to return in 1996. This time
for $200. "It all started about six years ago", recalls Dave. " I discovered students could memorize how to play an entire song on an instrument." |
