High Climbers

Members of the local chapter also belong to the Alpine Club of Canada which will celebrating their 100th year in 2006 with over 5000 members. The national club provides insurance to all members.

Week-long training camps are available each summer in various BC mountain locations. Professional guides provide instruction and the cost is very reasonable due to sponsorship by equipment manufacturers.

International trips and expeditions are arranged to places like Patagonia and Russia.

The benefits of joining the Alpine Club include safety, the fun of being part of a social group who share your passions, and the support of people with many skills.

Even children get involved. The local club has reserved time for children of members to practice on the climbing wall at the Smithers Pool. Children can take part in rock climbing in the field but are restricted for safety.
