Vipers - Women's Hockey

The women travel about one weekend out of four to play against their "sister clubs" in towns like Vanderhoof, Fraser Lake, Mackenzie and Stewart.

In April, they will play for the second time at Vancouver's Annual Planet Ice All-Women's Tournament. Last year, they won their first two games against Surrey and Lilloet, tied Colorado 0-0 and then finally lost their one and only game to Sechelt 4-2.

While she's away, Val's husband Brian keeps her three boys and the home running. "There's a lot of people who help us out," she says, talking about the fundraising needed to help with the cost of ice time, tournament fees, jerseys, travel and equipment.

The girls have some excellent sponsors from local businesses with their top sponsor being the Houston and District Credit Union. When they travel to Vancouver, they rent vans and stay in hotel rooms - a cost not everyone could afford without some help.

The ladies have worked on the Christmas Light Up, Houston Trade Show, Houston Drag Races and Designated Driving to help raise money. Val tells me, "People like to call us because we're really organized."
Both on and off the ice it would appear!
