Ski Patrol to the Rescue
The third jacket color to notice next time you're at Ski Smithers is the R.C.M.P. orange with black. Coordinated through the Smithers Detachment, this fairly new volunteer program allows off-duty officers to spend a day skiing for free, in exchange for wearing the specially marked jackets and providing a police presence on the hill.

There is no set schedule and officers from any detachment can apply. The RCMP also assist with the Schuss Boomer race by measuring speeds with radar, and hold an annual engraving program to mark equipment against theft.
Someone is always "In The Doghouse"- the highest spot on the mountain - waiting for a radio call for help
The biggest message these people want to send is to "play safe." Ski under control at all times. Always look up the hill before starting out. Watch out for beginners and if you're into getting "air", wear a helmet.

But if for some reason you don't ...and it comes back to bite you, don't worry too much. You'll soon be in good hands. Guaranteed!
