Seniors Do It Themselves

There is something going on at the Seniors Centre everyday of the week. This includes cards, badminton, exercise class, floor curling, shuffleboard, pool, carpet bowling, and the recent addition - computer classes.

Five new computers with desks and chairs have been donated to the Seniors Centre, compliments of the Federal Government.

The Houston Seniors have many reasons to toot their horns. Their obvious promotion of participation in sports, fitness and recreation has brought home countless trophies from the B.C. Seniors Games.

In 2005, local Adrian Meeuwissen brought home seven gold medals alone in the men's Track and Field 75-79 division. Five-pin bowlers won bronze in the Timmens, Ontario 2003 Nationals.

They also annually represent their entire zone (which extends from Atlin, Stewart, Prince Rupert to Vanderhoof) in floor curling, coming in 5th in the last games.

The Houston Seniors are a very active bunch of people. But, says local senior Anne Hiebert, "It's too bad we can't get more people out."

Did you know memberships cost only $6/ year and are sold to people aged 19 and up? That means I could be a member and for only $1 per activity, I can finally learn how to play Kanasta! Maybe we'll see you there.
