Like most serious athletes, Kurt Smith
has a promo package - an information packet used for approaching
companies for sponsorship. On the cover of Kurt's it says:
"B.C. Champion and Best Ranked Mogul Skier
2000/2001 B.C. Freestyle Team Member" ...AND...
"Future World Cup and Olympic Mogul Skier"
Kurt Smith's "bar" was clearly set.
Born in Smithers in November 1981, Kurt was introduced
to the sport of downhill skiing at the early age of four
by his parents, Tim and Sharon. Having a cabin on Hudson
Bay Mountain meant spending most weekends on the slopes
- a place where, at the age of 12, he happened to catch
the BC Winter Games. "It was shortly after (these games),"
says Sharon, " that his interest began." |
