Taylor Made Hockey Rink Wins

There wasn't always this magnificent rink in the Taylor's backyard. In "the beginning" the kids skated and played hockey in the family drive-way. Then Alan moved them to a small pond in the back, an area that he expanded before realizing it had gone as far as possible.

Then the idea for the rink was born. The first warming shack was simply a lean-to with plastic over top to keep the snow off. The current shack has just been renovated to double the size to contain more bench seats, a wood-burning stove and lockers for the family.

The Taylor's have always welcomed friends and family every day of the week. They come after school and on weekends, holding the odd birthday party or social gathering as well.

The deal is if you bring an edible snack to share with everyone, you can skate for free. If not, please pay $1 for kids and $2 for adults to help with the hydro. If you're keen on slapshots, bring lots of pucks. Help out whenever help is needed. The main rule is "...have a good attitude and have fun."

As winners of the contest, t he Taylors won four tickets to Game Four of the Stanley Cup hockey finals in Edmonton, where they met the famous Don Cherry in the sauna of their hotel. Almost as great a surprise as the game itself!

For a family so immersed in the sport, there could not have been a better prize.
