Heading Creek Falls
by Debi Smith

I love water falls, so it was a great gift from my son Lorne, the day he took me to the Heading Creek falls. There are not a lot of people in Houston who know the falls exist. Now everyone in our region will be in on the secret.

The falls are so close that it only takes ten minutes from town to arrive at the beginning of a 20-minute hike to the falls.

Travel east on Highway 16 from Houston toward Burns Lake. Take the turn-off to the right for the Knockholdt Landfill and drive this gravel road until you pass the landfill. According to the sign, this road now becomes the Heading Creek Forest Service Road. It's best to use this road on weekends and holidays to avoid any logging truck traffic.

Travel this road until you pass the 2 km sign, then slow down. You do NOT want to pass the 3 km sign or else you've gone too far. Go about 3/4 km past the 2 km sign.

On your left you will see a Pacific Northern Gas right-of-way sign in the middle of a large clearing. You should park anywhere along the road here - making sure to pull your vehicle well off the main road.
