Paul stops to talk to most people
cycling through
Houston, often inviting them into his home. "It's
a big world but a small fraternity of transcontinental
cyclists, " he
says. "On a bicycle, no-one takes us as a threat." Gheri
smiles knowingly, "They always want to feed you. Eat!
EAT! Like Italian mothers. When I was biking, I could never
get enough sleep or calories."
Dani says another best
part was trying all the different foods, even though a
lot was cooked by her Dad. In rural America, you couldn't
always get what you wanted to cook, Paul says. "They just
think I'm a great cook because they were so hungry."
Paul
is also interested in joining the Randonneurs, an international
cycling club started in 1923 which "...fosters long
distance ultra cycling in a friendly, supportive, non-competitive
environment." There are 200 to 1200 km brevets (jaunts)
all to be finished under a certain time limit. The one
from Prince Rupert to Williams Lake must be completed in
75 hours.
This will require rigorous training.
