Dani's parents, Paul and Gheri Comparelli,
moved to Houston from Vancouver in 1987 to open
a dental
clinic.
Before
that, Paul explains, "Gheri and I were both cyclists.
Every summer we took a month off. We did lots of trans-continental
trips. We kind of quit when we moved up here." Understandable
when you are a busy dentist with four daughters at home.
The family chose
a sport they could do together, the girls were enrolled
in the Jackrabbit cross-country ski program and the
family became
avid skiers. Today, twins Dani and Alli train for ski-and-shoot
Biathalons held in Smithers. The girls are also involved
in high school soccer, volleyball and swimming. Dani wants
to be
a lifeguard one day.

So how do you get
from all this to riding your bike from Jasper to Kansas?
It helps to have
a father
who constantly tells you, "If you think you can do
it, then you can. If you think you can't, you can't."
There
was no pre-training for the long bike tours. The first
few days are the hardest,
the
girls
admit, but after that it gets "...really
easy."
Even when loaded down with two saddlebags in
front and two behind, they don't worry when seeing big
hills because as Dani says, "...we'll
be going down soon."
Kentucky had some brutal hills. "You
get used to it, though. It's all a mind set".
