Acupuncture Healing

Okay, so did it hurt? Like any needle, there is a tiny prick at first. Hopefully you only have to have the one-inch sterile, single-use needles instead of the three-inch long type.

The needles come in various lengths and thicknesses and will be inserted from one to three inches deep. The deeper it goes, the more you'll feel it. But don't let that scare you away!

You will immediately feel a warm sensation where the needles have entered. This is because the blood vessels in the area are dilating to create a greater blood flow to the area. Having more blood centralized on the problem will promote the healing process. This is why the practise is widely used in sports.

Called "alternative-care practitioners", acupuncturists work with basketball, hockey and football players, travelling with teams, especially during big events like Grey Cup, Stanley Cup and other play-offs.

Acupuncturists also work with golfers, swimmers, runners - any sport that is known to deplete an athlete's body requiring fast, specific healing.

The traditional TCM method can use anywhere from 30-60 needles per session to establish a good flow of Chi. I prefer Mike's Western view of using only a few well placed needles to "hit the spot."
