Healthy Skin For Northerners

We both decided to try the products I’d come home with to see which worked the best. Our testing wasn’t very scientific and we tried quite a wide range of products that cost anywhere from $2 to $120 but we did get similar results.

Although I didn’t know it, she’d purchased the same type of L’Oreal cream as I had  -- Wrinkle Decrease. She didn’t notice any improvement while using the product but did when she used the RoC cream containing Retinol. The L’Oreal product is in the $20 range while the RoC is about $40.

We also both agreed that the “freeze” cream, which was supposed to mimic the effects of Botox (It “freezes” muscles and relaxes wrinkles in doing so), didn’t work. Although it felt cold when applied to the skin, neither of us noticed an appreciable change.

Even after testing a wide variety of creams, I still had the nasty little lines around my eyes. In desperation, I ended up trying a pricey Elizabeth Arden product -- Ceramide Plump Perfect which is a “targeted line concentrate”. It is supposed to show immediate results and plump the lines from within.

I tried it and didn’t notice any immediate results. Since I’d bought the product, I continued using it although I was feeling a bit disillusioned. About six weeks later, however, I noticed a definite improvement in those nasty little lines. They’re still there, but much softer and less noticeable than before.

Waverly tries the Terractive Sea Clay Masque. She didn't like it.

Other products I liked were inexpensive collagen and “ultra firming” masques I found in a department store. They cost about $2 for a pack of two masques and they really do leave skin looking and feeling moisturized. The results don’t last for more than a day but they’re an inexpensive treat.

There are several products offered by St. Ives which are similar to the masques. These are available in tubes and cost anywhere from $5 to $8. They have a mineral clay firming masque which my daughter likes and an alpha-hydroxy peel which I like.
