We had a great weekend with Glenn Stewart teaching an advanced clinic Stage 3/4. Thanks to all the spectators at the clinic who braved the cold on Friday and Saturday and also all the demo spectators on Friday evening even though they missed the beginning of the hockey game! We had a great turnout and Glenn did a very entertaining demo with with his gelding Avero and his stud Jet. We are busy planning a beginners clinic, an advanced clinic and an Extreme Horsemanship Competition for the week after the BV Exhibition in Smithers (Aug. 29th - Sep. 3) and will post the details as soon as they are finalized! A special thanks to all our volunteers and helpers - we would be lost without you!

Only got to watch a bit of it, but was really good. Best introduction to the round pen I've ever seen, anywhere. Very nice for the horse. Thanks to all who put on great horse events of all sorts in this valley. It is alot of work, and sometimes I know I take it for granted, so nice to be reminded to say a big thanks to everyone who makes our horsie world turn!

Glad to hear that everyone enjoyed the clinic. I on the other hand was disappointed in the amount of hay and manure that was left on the grounds. Saturday evening everyone was gone by 6:30 and there was hay and manure where horses had been tied to trailers and manure in the outdoor round pen. I picked up a full wheel barrel of "left overs". I guess some people just don't consider cleaning up after themselves and their horses part of "Horsemanship". |

| Thank you for doing that. I apologize if any of the hay and manure was left there from clinic participants. I was still at the grounds on Saturday until 18.25 and wasn't aware of hay and manure left where trailers had been parked. I am certain that I checked the road, but I know that I didn't check if trailers had been parked in the area close to the 4H washrooms. On the other hand, the outdoor round pen was not used by any of us during the clinic because it was still too wet. I am sure the arena was left tidy and I know we helped you set the round pen back up inside since you were there with us! I certainly wouldn't have been put out if you had mentioned any areas that still needed cleaning up, I would have seen to it then since that was the reason I stayed late. |

Anika, my whole point is why should either one of us be cleaning up manure after any of the participants? Some people are just inconsiderate, lazy or think that they don't have to clean up. It sure shouldn't be the clinic organizer or someone else using the facilities cleaning up after them, but alas there are always a few that don't or won't. Thanks for the helping put the round pen back up. |

I know what you mean, Terry, but if you had pointed out where the mess was, I could have talked with the participants and maybe next time there would be no mess there. People can change, some need a little help. I would rather deal with it this way then point it out on the internet. Chances are that whoever the "culprit" (and I use this term very loosely )was, they won't even see this posting and so nothing will have been achieved. |

You know, honestly, it has never occurred to me to clean up manure or hay left behind at an event UNLESS the event organizer and/or the facility made it very clear that it should be cleaned up. After all, it is just manure and hay, usually on grass or dirt - it's all natural material that will compost.
I agree with Anika - sometimes people need a little help to change. And the first thing to help them change is to let them know it needs to be done. :-) |

| Pretty liberal to state PARTICIPANTS (fairly biased statement IMO)...while I was there I saw other people using the facilities that were not partaking in the clinic. Could be anyones manure and hay. Regardless, people should clean up behind their own horses, especially on property that does not belong to them. |

There are many signs at the grounds, instructing people to clean up after themselves, yet for some reason people don't know how to read. If the area is clean before you get there then be sure its clean when you leave. No matter where you go! Yes there are many users of the grounds, I think the point that was being made was people need to clean up after themselves as their mother isn't there to do it for them. |

| It is very possible any leftovers likely weren't intentional, sometimes people get in a rush to leave or as Kristi mentioned many don't think to pick up manure and or hay on the ground.Over the 30 some odd years there has been a lot of manure and hay down there.....some of the manure can get put in a pile and some not.A good many people ignore signs or think they don't need to comply with the rules....I still see a lot of off leash dogs and that has always been a rule;all dogs on leash.I would love to see a pick up after your dog sign as well. |

| Andi you are very right about picking up after your dogs! We always try to remember to take baggies with us - or at least kleenex (ugh!) - and it makes me NUTS how many horse people think it is fine to leave dog crap everywhere! :( I guess the difference for me is I don't mind getting in my truck with horse manure on my boots... not so keen on dog poop, LOL |

| that is so true Kristi.....I'm always surprised at the number of people that don't pick up after their dogs and I'm with you on the poop on boots thing....lol. I guess that anywhere horse folks gather there's bound to be some kind of poop :)) As for signs people really are not observant at all. |

| Just my two cents...... I recieved an email from Anika reasurring me that the grounds and stalls would be cleaned up from the Event. She stated that she would not be able to do this immediately, but would be back the next day to make sure all is well. I told her fine as long as it got done. I agree that everyone should be shovelling there own mess. I feel that Anika took responsiblity to make sure that the grounds were cleaned up , although a day later. :) I do find it amazing how many people use the grounds, and some even complain about various things, like footing, grass mowing etc, but load there horses and leave **** and hay piles!!! WTH! Who the hell do they think cleans it up??? I agree to on educating , but really?.... How hard is it?... If your horse ****s clean it up!! Simple. Tammy- current Barn Manager for the NSC |

| .... oh just wanted to add, that yes, it is all natural material, but if no one cleaned up after coming to our beautiful facility, it sure the heck wouldn't be beautiful for long! Manure and hay take awhile to decompose and with the amount of traffic our grounds see it would look like a BIG **** pile. Nothing I , or our visitors want to look at. If we all do our part and maybe sometimes a bit more, the grounds will look great!!! |
