• Make sure that a buyer's cheque or money order clears the bank before releasing your goods to the buyer
• Never send money to a buyer
• Be especially suspicious of any buyer from beyond BC and Alberta

More Buyer Scams

December 16, 2009 - there is a scammer lurking on the site who asks sellers for personal and bank information. Please do not respond.

Here's part of an email received lately -

" I have had two people email me wanting to buy my stuff and they say that they are sending me the money .. and that is fine.. then they say that they are sending me a money order for two to three times what it is worth and I am to take what my item is worth and send the rest of the money to someone else.. this scares me.. It is people from the states and they  deal with AOL. have you heard anything about this..."

Recent Scams

Every day, we remove scam ads submitted to the Classified Ads. The most popular scams recently include puppy ads and offers for get-rich schemes, often from India and Algeria. If you find an ad that is a scam, please let us know.

No Category - No Show

If you forget to choose a category for your ad, your ad will not appear. The database simply does not know where to put the ad. Since you cannot change the category on the Edit page, let us know and we will assign a category for your ad. Give us a full description so that we can find the ad.

Phony offers

Here's an example of a scam offer received by a Classified Ad user. Caution - offers like this are phony and should be ignored.

"We are interested in buying your above mentioned truck at advertised rate. Vehicle will be picked up from your location for onward shipping to London. Cost and modalities of shipping to be born by us.

Payment for the purchase is by check through a debtor in US. The debtor owes us higher than our purchase. He will therefore be sending you a check for $7,000 to cover the cost of our order, as well as the Shipping costs.

On receipt of the check, you will cash and deduct the cost of our order .The balance you will send as we would instruct you to the Agency that will ship the Goods to us. If this arrangement suites you fine, please send us your address where to send the check, as well as the name to be on it. Also send us your phone number for easy communication."

Here's another scam...

Dear Seller.
I am intrested in buying your 2 - three piece units containing 2 burners, but before we can proceed on this transsaction,i will like you to confirm to me if you receive check. Also to inform you that my shipping agent will be coming for pick up at your location. what is the Final cost, so i can proceed to make
payment and when repling forward your Direct phone number for easy communication.

Duplicate accounts

Account holders often forget their password and then cannot access their ads to edit or delete them. Please do not setup duplicate accounts. If you do, it makes it that much harder to access your original account. If you forget your password, the solution is easy. Click on the "Forgot your password?" link and your password will be emailed to you within minutes.

Changes

If you wish to change the phone number that displays with one of your ads, it's a two-step process. First, login and go to EDIT REGISTRATION to change the phone number. Then delete any ads you want to show the new number and resubmit the ads. The new phone number will now display.

Monitor

Set your monitor resolution to 800 x 600 for best viewing.

We're sure that you will enjoy the new Classifieds. They will be so much more convenient...and you'll be able to search for specific ads easily.

Why do we review each ad? We weed out the ads from Houston, Texas (can't they read? It's Houston BC!), the duplicate ads that just take up too much room and the indiscreet Personals (it's all in how you word an ad - no graphic phrases, please)
99.5% of the ads are left as submitted.
